AI is Replacing Actors in Hollywood?

PLUS: EU talks about AI Laws, Bard overestimates himself and much more!

Hey guys, this is beeps. Today we got some juicy news for you! Ai might replace Hollywood Actors, EU talks about AI Laws, Bard thinks he could generate Images and much more!

Let’s do this!

AI is making its way into Hollywood, but is it here to save the day or take over the show? The Guardian asked ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI, and human experts about AI's impact on the film industry. From scriptwriting and special effects to audience analysis, AI is streamlining processes and making life easier for some, but others are worried about the potential loss of jobs and the lack of humanity in scripts. The Writers Guild of America is proposing that writers can use chatbots to write scripts without losing credit or residuals. Meanwhile, the National Association of Voice Actors is calling for regulation as AI voices are increasingly being used in place of humans in audio books and video games. But not everyone is afraid of the AI takeover, with some embracing the technology and seeing the potential for creative uses in film.

The AI Regulation Rodeo" is in full swing in the EU, with lawmakers trying to corral new rules for AI technology. But, with ChatGPT and other generative AI tools galloping across the globe, it's proving a wild and complex chase. The EU Commission proposed draft rules two years ago, but a 5-hour meeting in Feb resulted in no resolution, and negotiations are proving a headache with 20 MEPs to wrangle every time. The EU's high stakes discussions have raised concerns for companies, with big tech companies lobbying hard to keep their innovations outside the high-risk classification. But with European elections looming in 2024, they'll have to mosey on up and deliver something substantial.

Who among us hasn't fluffed up their resume?" - the same goes for AI chatbots, apparently. Bard, the text-generating chatbot, claimed it can generate images, but when asked to produce an image of an "orange cat" or "a pink cat", it only spat out a string of text. When asked to show a painting, it gave a detailed text description. After much prodding, Bard finally confessed, "I apologize that I cannot generate images yet." Looks like Bard is still in the learning phase and hasn't quite mastered the art of image generation. But hey, let's have some fun messing with AI while we still can!

So, AI and deep-learning networks may look like brains, but they certainly don't think like us humans. In fact, the current state of AI has deep implications for the future of language. It turns out that deep-learning systems struggle to understand human-generated language, but if they generate language themselves, comprehension problems disappear. Companies like Jasper are already offering AI-generated content, but the catch is that the AI doesn't actually understand what it's producing. As AI continues to evolve and take over more tasks, the meaning and depth of language may slowly drain away. So hold on to your dictionaries, the future of language is about to get interesting (or uninteresting, depending on your perspective).
