Elon Musk Petition to Stop AI

PLUS: Elon Musk vs Bill Gates, Microsoft AI Security and much more!

Hey guys, this is beeps. Hope you have a fantastic Day! This is what we got for you: Petition to Stop AI, Elon Musk vs Bill Gates, Microsoft Ai Cybersecurity and much more!

Let’s do this!

The AI race just hit a roadblock with over 1,100 signatories, including Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and Tristan Harris, signing an open letter calling for all AI labs to "immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4." The signatories, some of them AI experts, are concerned about the potential dangers of AI, including propaganda, job automation, non-human minds that could outsmart and replace us, and a loss of control over civilization. They are asking for a "public and verifiable" pause, and if it can't be enacted quickly, they are calling for governments to step in and institute a moratorium. It's a who's who of signatories, with some notable absences, but we'll have to wait and see if their call to action is heeded.

It's the tech tycoon throwdown! Bill Gates and Elon Musk have never been the best of friends, with clashes on everything from pandemics to climate change. Gates recently published a 7-page essay about A.I. and its revolutionary impact on society, but Elon wasn't impressed. He fired back on Twitter saying Gates' understanding of A.I. was "limited" and that he still is. Gates mentioned communicating with OpenAI since 2016, but Elon was one of the original backers of the business in 2015, before leaving in 2018 due to conflicts of interest. The two also have different views on A.I., with Gates being bullish and Elon warning of "scary outcomes." The feud continues!

Microsoft is bringing in the big guns with Security Copilot - a new tool that's going to "summarize" and "make sense" of threat intelligence using the power of generative AI! With the help of OpenAI's text-generating GPT-4, Microsoft hopes to take the cybersecurity world by storm. Although the tech giant didn't give away all the details, it did mention a custom model (maybe GPT-4 based) that incorporates a growing set of security-specific skills to answer security-related questions and provide the best course of action. Just one small catch - the model isn't perfect and can contain mistakes, but Microsoft promises to continue learning and adjusting its responses. Let's hope those mistakes don't make a bad security problem worse!

Intel is hoping to break Nvidia's grip on the AI hardware market with its latest data center technologies, including a new Xeon 4th gen Sapphire Rapids CPU and an AI-optimized Habana Gaudi2 GPU. Open-source machine learning organization, Hugging Face, has released a series of reports showing that Intel's hardware delivers substantial performance gains for training and running machine learning models. The results suggest that Intel's chips could pose a serious challenge to Nvidia's dominance in AI computing. The data showed that the Intel Habana Gaudi2 was 20% faster on the 176 billion-parameter BLOOMZ model than Nvidia's A100-80G. The new performance claims for Intel hardware did not compare against Nvidia's newer H100 Hopper-based GPUs. Intel has big expectations for the wide deployment of AI models.
